Andrea Scott, FMAAT

Director

Andrea founded A E Scott & Co in 2013 after developing an interest in accountancy while completing her Business Studies degree. Since then, she has completed both AAT and ATT, while overseeing the growth of the firm from its first premises in Yarm into the practice it is today.

As Director, Andrea is closely involved in the running of the firm, client relationships and new client enquiries. She enjoys getting to know local businesses and helping clients feel comfortable speaking to their accountant, whether they need ongoing support or are taking their first steps in business.

Main areas: Client relationships, New enquiries, Business support, Property Structures, Advisory and Practice development.

Ben Phillips, ACA FMAAT

Director

Ben joined A E Scott & Co as an apprentice in 2015 and has progressed through the company, completing AAT before going on to qualify as an ICAEW Chartered Accountant in 2025. Having worked across many areas of the practice, Ben has a strong understanding of the day-to-day support small businesses need, as well as the compliance pressures they face.

As Director, Ben is involved in accounts, tax, internal systems and the overall development of the firm. He works closely with clients to provide clear, practical advice, while also helping the team improve processes and maintain a high standard of service.

Main areas: Accounts, Corporation tax, Personal tax, R&D, Advisory work and Practice development.

Samantha Mason-Hill

Accountant

Samantha joined A E Scott & Co in 2018 as an AAT bookkeeping apprentice and has since progressed through several areas of the firm, including bookkeeping, payroll and accounts. Since joining the team, she has completed her AAT studies and built up a strong understanding of the practical support clients need day to day.

Samantha now works on accounts preparation, VAT returns and client support, while also playing an important role in training new staff and helping clients get comfortable with their bookkeeping systems. Her experience across different parts of the practice makes her a valuable point of contact for clients and the wider team.

Main areas: Accounts, Corporation and Income Tax, VAT and Training.

Christopher Smith

Accountant

Christopher joined A E Scott & Co in 2019 as an AAT bookkeeping apprentice, having started his AAT studies the year before. Since then, he has completed his AAT qualification and progressed into accounts and tax work, supporting a wide range of clients across the practice.

Christopher now works on accounts preparation, tax returns, VAT returns and general client support. He is also continuing to develop his tax knowledge while studying towards the ATT qualification.

Main areas: VAT, Accounts, Corporation and Income Tax.

Emily Phillips

Payroll Clerk & Administrator

Emily joined A E Scott & Co in early 2022 after spending five years working in the NHS. She now manages the firm’s payroll services and administration, helping clients with regular payroll processing and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.

Since joining the team, Emily has also taken over the firm’s social media after completing a qualification in the Promotion of Services through Social Media. Her role combines client support, onboarding, organisation and communication which makes her an important part of both the payroll team and the wider practice.

Main areas: Payroll, Administration, Onboarding, Client Support and Social Media.

Kye Ayre

Bookkeeper

Kye joined A E Scott & Co in May 2023 after previously working in IT and completing a degree in Film. After finding that he enjoyed the accounting elements of his previous roles, Kye joined the firm to develop his skills and begin a new career in accountancy.

Since joining the team, Kye has completed his AAT Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications and now works on bookkeeping for a range of clients. His background in IT also gives him a practical approach to systems, records and problem solving.

Main areas: Bookkeeping, client records, digital systems and accounting support.

Lucy Oates

Apprentice Bookkeeper

Lucy joined A E Scott & Co in 2026 as an Apprentice Bookkeeper and is developing her skills while working towards her AAT qualification. She supports the bookkeeping team with client records, digital bookkeeping and day-to-day administrative tasks.

As part of her apprenticeship, Lucy works closely with the wider team to build her knowledge and gain practical experience across different areas of bookkeeping and accountancy support.
